You can't buy lead split shot any more, under 1/2 ounce; it's not illegal to use lead if you stocked up. ;)

Dam!!! I had a ton of lead split shot from my old bait shop that I gave to some old customers to melt down for jigs. I had no clue you could use it if you had it. I'll have to dig around in the old boxes to see what I have left.

YOu can use it just cant buy under .5 oz, I stock up on micro shot when I go to Erie for my fall steelie runs or my brother brings it up when he comes for Salmon and browns from CT.  worth the drive, fish a day or two, get your shot then you wont have to put on 15 shinney tin balls that look like your tryin to dredge the river for mud sharks when actually you hardly have enough to throw across the creek ::) ::)

Man!! I wasn't aware you could still use it!!! Thought when all this came out they said, you would no longer be able to buy it and use it. Threw all I had out and bought new. Hate having to put three or more shot on the leader to keep bait down. Found out that one large tin wasn't doing what I wanted when fishing a shallow lake for pike. Only dropping line 4' or so, checked tip ups and bait was swimming around in the hole.......
