Releasing A lake trout.........
« on: Jan 17, 2008, 09:37 AM »
In another forum some members are talkin about pricking the air bladder to release a lake trout or torpedoing them down a hole when ice fishing...Although I don't do very much ice fishing for them, I have guided for them and fished them a lot in the summer. and the correct way is to play them slowly and not trying to horse them up from the dpths, and they will BURP out a lot of the air... In open water a good trick is to run your hand ( palm ) along the belly back to fron while you revive the fish and they will burp out remaining water.... Through the ice this is definitly tougher, but if you are releasiing the smaller ones,it is still a possiblitie if you have a larger hole 10" or 12"... or are fishing from a shack with a window cut in the ice...... Hope this is info that helps you out if it pertains to you.........
