Get the Bird. I have a garmin 440s for kayak fishing in the sound. Nice unit but I have had 2 issues with it. Any upgrades to the maps you pay for that unit only. With the Humminbird you buy the chip and you can use it in other units. They even discount any other chips you buy and will let you trade it in on a better chip. The Gamin's are nice but you are liked in to Garmin in a raw deal.
