For me, it has been the $29.00  Shimano Seinna FD500 ! I'm running 3 of them now, 1 has 3, year round seasons on it and all I did was clean out the factory grease and use frabill sub zero ! All three have silky smooth drags and for the price, I can't beat them !

Good tip on the grease, I bet that works on any reel.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

I have never had a problem with the grease in my siennas....even at - 20. Very smooth.

pflueger president 6720/6920 is my favorite, fleetfarm and sportsmansguide have them for under 40 bucks.  pflueger trion is very nice as well, same drag as the president just fewer bearings...not quit as smooth.  the shimano's are very good as well i just like the smaller size of the pfluegers for panfish and the shimano's for walleye sticks.  the pfluegers do tend to have a heavier grease in them so i too take em apart and replace the grease with quantum hot sauce or ardent reel butter to insure smooth operation in the cold.

Tica cetus or shimano sienna...the lower priced pfluegers I have looked at don't have instant anti reverse. Pet pieve of mine, I won't use a reel without instant anti.- Pig

You can never go wrong with a Shimano reel in my opinion. I have yet to run into any problems even with the cheapest models. The drags always run smooth and I haven't had one stiffen up in the coldest weather.

Tica cetus or shimano sienna

the Tica is my go to, but I have been adding more and more Sienna's, they are a great reel for the price

You can't wrong with a Tica or Shimano like a Senora Fb or a Sedona Fd.  I've looked at a lot of reels lately and many of them seem junk, even some of the high priced ones.  I have a Bass Pro Micro Elite that I haven't tried yet that seems alright.  I also have a Cardinal 300U that's a nice reel, but the drag isn't as good as the Tica or Shimano.

I wanted a really small reel for my UL so I just ordered a Tiny Deadbolt.  Don't know how it'll perform, but I was happy with my old Silstar it's based on.   For less money the Pflueger may not be bad or Cabela's brand UL has had good reviews.  Any one try the HT six bearing reel yet?
