Title: Travelling from RI
Post by: SHaRPS on Feb 12, 2018, 10:17 AM
Wife just gave me the green light that we need a family trip up north just to get away from the hussle. She also gave me the green light to get a NH license and fish for a day. My little guy is 15 months old so not sure how long he will last but odds are it will be just me out there. I fish wini every June for a week as our Family vacation but I have never ice fished in NH. I have pretty much all the gear i need as far as striker suit, chisel, flasher, pop-up, rods etc etc etc. Only thing I dont have is a hard side shanty or atv or a rod that will handle lakers (but i can get one if needed).

So my question - Anyone up north willing to take me out for a day on winni or elsewhere? If not my plan is to find either a hotel or cheap cabin on the water so i can fish and be close to the family. But if someone is willing to take me along, the wife and little guy can do their own thing for a day and the wife is fine with that. The plan is to take this Friday off so we will either be heading up north Thursday night or Friday morning and heading back Sunday. Definitely last minute but thats just how it goes. I enjoy Perch and crappie but i am down for anything for my first NH ice trip.

If not, maybe just a general direction as to where to start. I will start looiking for places to stay right now and see how this post goes. If you want to talk, PM me.

Thanks in advance!  Tight lines!

I have not pulled the trigger yet because I was waiting to see if anyone responded. This way I could be closer to the fishing location. What I am looking at right now is in Center Harbor. Friday or Saturday would be the day for fishing.

Thanks Jon. just catching up on email and about to toss the family in the truck and head up north. 3 hour ride to meredith and first long distace trip with the 15 month old! should  be interesting and fun! hoping for at least 1 cusk as a primary target of the trip. not my style of fishing with just leaving the traps but ill take what time i have to soak my lines while keeping  the wife happy and building memories  with the little guy. wife has no idea but i brought kahtoolas for her for a nice family ice walk  ;)  ;D

Hey Sharps have fun man! From a fellow RI member! I’m going to North Conway this weekend don’t know if I’ll have time to fish...I got the kids and another family. Anyone know of a close place to fish near the Red Jacket to hit the hard water with brats? Cheers

Well, im standing on the deck looking over wolfeboro bay and sad that its all about to be over. Truck is packed and we are about to head back home. So much for 3" of snow, more like 8-10" if not more. Fishing with Roccus was fantastic to say the least! Great guy to spend a day out on the water with! plenty of action  all day long both on the jig and tip ups. Thank you very much and i hope you enjoy the kielbasa, sausage and wine! This morning met up with JRflatlander and jr for 2 hours of fishing. Again fishing was terrific! company even better!

I dont know of many people that would bend over backwards like Roccus and JRflatlander did for someone they never met. Words cannot describe how lucky and how grateful i feel! Glad to make new friends where trust, respect, and loyalty were the first on the table. I will keep in touch fellas! Thanks again!!!!

lastly, dropped 6 cusk lines friday night and bang! 2 cusk the following day! another fish off my bucket list!

enjoy!

Well said! Looking forward to more trips in thr future with these guys thats for sure! Either up north or a trip on me out my way.

Congrats on your successful trip...  nice when a plan comes together so well.

Thank you. the fishing is the easy part when you have two great guides that drop you right on the fish.  For the cusk i took advice from other members on here as well and mixed it with a little twist  of my own and it worked! thanks to all of you as well. Had grilled white perch with blackened  seasoning for dinner last night as well as cusk chunks in seasoned flour over butter in cast iron. Felt great to end this trip with a meal with my boy and my father, which was caught up north!

I just want to thank both Ruccus and  JRflatlander for an awesome dinner well after our expeditions .  had white  perch a few days ago and tonight, smoked up my lake trout after sitting in my brine for 6 days. WOW was it good smoked! after reading how everyone says they are oily i knew this would be the ticket for dinner. andd i must say, my old man and jr both loved it as well! Thank you guys!

Looks delicious! I smoked a lake trout a few weeks ago, but the brine I used was too salty. It was still excellent, but I’m looking forward to the next one!
