enough for fishable ice?
« on: Feb 18, 2006, 11:56 AM »
Anyone think this short cold spell is enough to make some fishable ice for a day or 2?

Oh yea, 6" of ice today. It's -15 now, by Mon we may have over 10". Enough to last more than a week now.

jigbounce, have you ever ice fished Diamond Bar? It's a lake I've always wanted to fish but never been there.

I never have.  I drove out and seen it once but it didn't have good ice on it at the time so i never fished it.  Local people say that it used to be a pretty nice little lake.

Went to Carter Johnson Lake this afternoon. There was 5-6 inches of good ice. Unfortunately, we caught only one trout in the two hours we were there, but it was a beautiful day to be on the ice. Makes me sad the work won't allow me to go again tomorrow!

I'd call off, the ice could be gone next week, the way this winter has been!!! Just kidding, there should be ice next week (lol) C-ya. Crappie Rob.

Thanks for the note, crappie rob. I certainly hope the ice holds out at least through Sunday. Speaking of which, anyone been to Smith Lake south of Rushville lately? I was hoping to drive over there Sunday.

i have been fishing the last 3 days, Merritt has anywhere from 4 to 10 inches in boardmans creek area and the interstate lakes had 3 to 5".  Fishing was really tough, 3 fish in three days :-[  I drilled at least 75 holes Thursday on Merritt and barley seen a fish on the finder.  caught one small perch in 32ft.  Anybody have any idea what the fish do when it refreezes late in the season??? cause i couldn't figure it out.
