Went ice smashing after work today and found as much as an inch and a half but it was cloudy soft ice... -15c overnight tonight so that'll help thicken it up a bit...  be safe out there...

I put my foot thru this aft at my usual first ice haunt, it was less than an inch.  Although I hear it's almost three inches nearby and some folks were walking on it, so hopefully it'll firm up good by this weekend.

it continues to be the same ice conditions here...one day it rains and then like today its 16 f...and tomorrow 40 f again...maybe 2 inches in places onthe small ponds.  WHitecaps onthe river and lakes nearby today.  Let me know whne the cold snap startsw in the Ottawa region as it's only 10 hours away from here.
Whenever someone caught a fish...my Uncle David always shouted..."THROW IT BACK TO IT"S MOTHER!!"  I can hear that echoing across the frozen lake now!

All I can hope is that the weather doesn't affect the ice too much over the next couple days. I want to sit over a hole and fish this weekend

Hi All,

This is my 1st post on here, great site you guys have. I have just moved from England to Dryden and live right on Lake Wabigoon. It has been all ice since last Tuesday except for the dam by the Mill. I have ventured off my lawn 20 feet out and it was clear ice, but i turned back cuz my wife was freaking out, even though i know its only 4' deep there ( i use my slip bobbers for walleye in the summer right there)...looked about 3-4 inches last week, clear ice , but it has snowed everyday since so there is at least a foot of snow out there now. Snuck off work and got down to the dock where the eventual ice road starts and there are snowmachine tracks going across now, one going across the bay and up to our house. Anyway, armed with all the safety tips and precautions i have gotten from this site(thanks) and the fact that it has been at least -17 every night for 2 weeks and at least -12 during the day i reckon theres a pretty good chance i'll be out the front of the house this weekend .....I love it!!

Welcome vicious ;D

Don that boat will be toast if the guy did'nt remove it the day I was there. I'll be back after the storm clears to actually pop some holes and see if anything is biting.

Thanks Slop ;D,

Well i did manage to get on the ice last night for an hour with a buddy and his kid....i expected there to be more aice but all the snow we got has really insulated that first ice we had over 2 weeks ago, anyway there was a good 5-6" but in some parts it was layered and slushy, but we all survived and even caught a small walleye for our efforts and only had yards to walk back for supper( the fish tasted great but only got a sliver each...lol).

I'm in Ottawa.  A few of the back bays have about 3".  I might try to venture out this weekend but after that storm we got, not too sure.

I am in school all weekend  :P

But I plan on checking out the ice on Monday or Tuesday or both... it might be a lot quieter without the crowds.  Looking for a partner though.. it would be a lot safer anyway.  PM me if you would like to hook up.

I will be watching for reports.
