Dec 13th perch fishing

Went out today with bigbassmon searching for some early ice, first stop was a little lake that is usually one of the first to lock up and we weren't disappointed found a consistent 4.5-6in of black ice over 15-20 fow. We were confined to a small basin area because we werent sure how the ice was over the deeper water but still had enough room to punch a bunch of holes and searched for active fish. Unfortunately the bite wasn't as aggressive as I have experienced in the past so we had to work for our fish today.  Fished for about 5.5hrs and probably got about 15 perch of which 9 were keepers.  I was hoping for some bass or crappie action as well but it was just the perch that wanted to play today.  No real hot baits today, small jigging rap, puppet minnow and lindy flyer spoons all worked.

Nice looking dinner there!  Congrats on some early ice success.  I plan on kicking open your holes on sunday, hope you left some perch behind  ;)

Better bring some dynamite, the holes were freezing over in 15 mins today, it was cold.

Just an inch or two of snow right now but big storm coming tomorrow, going to make it messy

Went back out to the same spot today and the snow made it tough sledding, weight of the snow sunk the ice a bit so it got a little slushy when you punched holes.  I didnt have a great day, 12 or so fish in 5 hours but only a few keep size, the rest were dink perch and pumpkinseeds. Board member TheDL was out with us and he banged off some nice crappie, hopefully he will posts some pics.
