Caspian
« on: Feb 23, 2018, 09:32 AM »
Heading to Caspian for first time this weekend. I've seen the threads on laker tactics and will be running tips ups and jigging with the prescribed methods. Anyone care to shoot me a PM with any specific recommendations for Caspian? Locations/depths/etc.

Much appreciated.

Sure thing... I have also had good luck setting up soon as I hit the 40' mark walking out from the beach.
Load it, Drive it, Park it
Bait it, Jig it, Hook it
Catch it, Clean it, Cook it
Simply put just get out/ and do it

Anyone know how the lake/ice is holding up with this warm spell we are having? I'm hoping to go up this weekend and fish from the north end.

I measured 17" of ice total yesterday on the north end.  I walked out but a few people were driving vehicles out.  Gonna take a 4 wheeler out tomorrow.

Was out there today. There's about 15" of ice on the NW corner of the lake, with a bit less around where the brook comes in. 17 or 18" of hard ice near Burlington point, but it's thinner around the rock pile so you'll want to stay clear of that. Someone put sticks around it so you can easily spot it. People out on cars, trucks, wheelers today, on all parts of the lake. Even a minivan. Just enough snow on top to get a good grip. Makes for easy sled towing!

Bite was slow for my gf and I. Went 1 for 3 on lakers. One we landed was 20".

Was there today with the old man and brother. I’ve deduced I suck at trout fishing through the ice as the old man got 3. 2 legals and 1 dink I saw multiple trout on my vex just none wanted to bite.
i told myself id be back by 2 i guess i didnt factor in that the fish were biting

A friend and I fished Caspian both days this weekend (weatherman, I assume that was you in the Eskimo shanty?  We pulled up on the wheeler late morning, you were in cemetery cove).   We ditched the tipups for my first time ever and strictly jigged.  We did very well, limit a piece yesterday plus some shorties and 13 between us today.  We had to work for them though, very finicky.  A great weekend.

I’ll add that I just did the math and my cohort outfished me by almost 2 to 1.  He’s definitely got them figured out better than I.

Yep! That was me and my girlfriend! Too bad we didn't get a chance to chat more! Sounds like you guys had a great weekend. Wish our luck was even half as good as yours. We were the ones who walked out from shore by you off the point in the afternoon as well. Toward dark we snuck over to the spot where you were when we walked out, and I could see why you were there haha. Didn't land anything before the finder died and my fingers froze off, but we marked a bunch of lakers and what I assume was a big perch stole the worm off my kastmaster. Looked like you guys landed at least one big perch from what we could see?

I hear they were biting good today. My friend and her friend got a bunch, including one around 6 pounds. What technique were you using? What lures?

Till next time I guess! That's a nice perch! I know there's some monsters in there, but never really targeted them. Nice work!

Ice Fiend, were you at caspian today?  We fished the north end, only ended up with a laker a piece, much less activity than the past weekend.
