lake maxinkuckee crappies?
« on: Nov 25, 2007, 03:20 AM »
Just wondering if anybody has had any luck with crappies while on the ice?  I have caught some brutes in the spring and early summer but have yet to catch one through the ice.  Purduebass

I really never caught a lot of crappie through the ice until last winter.  I really didn't do anything different than I usually do for catching bluegill, same bait and jigs.  It is just a matter of finding the crappie, many times they are in the same places as the gills, often times suspended above the gills.

I agree with crappie, I don't typically catch a lot of crappie ice fishing, but when I do I'm fishing with the same setup I use to catch gills.

I've also had some luck using small jigging rapala, and minnow under an ice buster.

I agree most of the time they will be running with gills just suspended above them. How far depends on how deep you are fishing
