Fishing St. Joe near South Bend
« on: Feb 09, 2017, 02:25 PM »
Might be bringing some kids up to an event this Saturday at a high school in South Bend and will have all day to myself. Is there any fish to be caught this time of year in the St Joe? Any suggestions on where I might go. I can bring my waders. Never seen it the Joe and have no idea if it's worth bringing my gear.

Get a trout stamp if you don't have one. Winter steelhead have been decent this year. Small mouth and Walter's there too

Probably not worth buying a trout stamp as I don't have any of type of equipment. I do have smallmouth and walleye gear.

Going to be a tough bite tomorrow.  We just got over 1/2" of rain and the river is running high and muddy.  Zappia in Mishawaka is a good option if you have waders and will be in South Bend.

Frank Zappia access.  It's at the corner or Lincolnway and Capital Ave.  Water is starting to clear up but visibility is still an issue.  They had 3 gates open this morning and water temp was 35.8 degrees.

Caught a 22 inch walleye. Had a couple others bites but lost them. Saw a guy that had a nice steelie.
