Title: Any one use Guide Gear Ice Parka and Bibs
Post by: WildOutdoorAddict on Oct 31, 2010, 06:45 PM
Does anyone have and use this Ice fishing suit? I ordered one, and they seem to have good reviews, but for the money it doesn't seem I could go wrong.

There was a thread on this a while back.  From what I read the reviews were positive.  I was going to order a set for my Son but they were sold out.  I'll have to jump on it right away this year.  Thanks for posting.

I can't believe the price on these things from Bargain Outfitters, even if they aren't that great you can't go wrong for the money.

I ordered my on Sat morning, the price was listed at 59.99 for each piece, put them both in the basket and went to check out and they rang up at 44.99 a piece. They give you a 29.99 discount if you order both pieces together. All said and done with shipping 104.95, not a bad deal if you ask me. They are due to arrive on Thursday, I can't wait :icefish:

Well, my parka and bibs arrived yesterday and I must say I'm impressed so far. To be quite honest I was expecting a little less in the quality dept, but much to my surprise they seem as good as the suits costing three times as much. I've had the opportunity to try on a few of the more expensive ones, and from a laymans perspective they seem very evenly matched, ( knee padding, weight, material, and sizing) I would be in a better place to judge the quality of the set after a season or two on the ice.  If they preform as well as they look, I think I will have made a good investment.
I will keep you guys up to date as the ice season progresses.

I ordered a set for my Son.  They arrived today so I just had my first chance to examine them.  I'm impressed so far.  I have a set of Vexilar Cold Snap gear for myself and the Guide Gear doesn't seem much different.  As Duckbuster stated I wasn't expecting them to be as nice as they are.  They appear waterproof, warm, well stitched, reflective trim, LOTS of pockets both inside & outside the garment, padded knees, flexible wire sewn in the hood, warm lining, velcro closure on arms & legs, generous cut, etc.   Even if they don't last as long as the more expensive garments I think at 1/3 the cost you'll still be ahead of the game.
If you're thinking of buying them jump now while you still can.  At $100 bucks for the whole outfit they're a bargain.

i have a question. do you guys fish without a shanty? i use regular walls coverall in frabill shelter with a heater running. the price is tempting since i am a club member. will i  be too hot if i wear them in my shanty? should i just stay with my walls coveralls?

If this is the same suit our buddy Paul has, they are worth the 80 or 100 bucks all day long. He walked around us for most of our gathering in his before we realized it wasn't Ice Armor. The coloring and material are very close. We were surprised when he mentioned the price last year. Just realize that it's "armor". My Clam suit isn't particularly thick either, especially the bibs. They're designed to tackle wind and weather first.
Here's Paul blending in with the rest of the Blue Clam Group. ;)

I am thinking of ordering this same Parka and Bibs set.

But the sizing has me a little unsure as to what to get the Large or the X-Large

I am 5'9" and 210 lbs  I see that (wolfpack) at 5'6" and 180 lbs thinks he should of maybe gotten the Large instead of the X-Large and (littlesturgeonguy) at 6'3" likes the fit of the X-Large.

Wolfpack how much to big is the X-Large.  I have more around the belly and just a bit taller than you. Any input would be nice.

   Thanks for any help guys.

I got mine a 2 days ago but couldn't open them until tonight. WOW are they nice!!!!! I'm 5'10" and 178# and ordered LARGE. The size I normally order when I buy stuff. The jacket seemed too big at first but I didn't have the bibs on. With both on they fit nice. Enough room to move without pinching. The elastic cuffs in from the outer jacket arm cuffs are great. No more wind up the sleeves. The red color makes them look like STRIKEMASTER suits. Nice 2 way zippers, wind flaps, pockets and adjustable hood. When the jacket zipper stops at the chin there is a cloth flap to keep the zipper from scratching your chin or throat. A very nice combo that they put some thought into. The only minor complaint I have is the crotch rides a little high. After adjusting the bib straps it went away. You won't be disappointed buying these. Join the club and get the cheapest price. Ask for the free shipping and you will still get $20 in coupons on any order. They also send you another $10 on orders over $100. Depending on how cold it is and the wind you may not need to layer up when wearing them. Time will tell. Can't wait to try them out!!!!!
