Title: "Ice Fishing Secrets" book
Post by: Muggsy on Aug 06, 2019, 06:19 PM
To all of those members who have suggested buying this book for us new or inexperienced ice fishermen, thank you! My copy arrived yesterday and I'm 90% through it on this first go-round. Tons of very species specific relevant information, although I found the equipment list somewhat dated in the early chapters. But hey, it was written nearly 20 years ago so that should be expected.

But the lake sketches along with the text relating to them, the techniques and explanations of jigging cadence, minnow rigging, etc. are very, very, helpful and the how-to's about when, where and why will surely add a new dimension to the upcoming ice season for me.

New guys.....(like me).... do yourself a favor and buy the book; it will be worth the $3-10 you'll spend on it!!!!

Remember nothing takes the place of experience.  Read all you can and mentor other fishermen, then go out and practice.

I got a copy a couple years ago. I'm old enough to gave been on the ice at the time it was written, so most of the info was known to me. Back in those days In-Fisherman magazine had lots of articles about ice fishing tactics. I remember being on Waubay Lake in SD while Dave Genz and other pros were fishing in a trap attack. Most of them were willing to visit with you if you approached them with questions.

In-Fisherman also has a lot of ice fishing DVD's available.

I bought the book long ago, but I also picked up the videos.

They have Ice Fishing Secrets 1 and 2 as well as panfish on ice, icing walleyes and several others.

My first copies were actually on VHS tapes.

You can find the DVD's cheap on eBay just put " ice fishing videos" in the search bar.

The book has more detailed information but the videos are a really nice addition to the book.

I agree with perch chaser, nothing beats experience, but these will get you going in the right direction.

Good Luck All
