Its the Brainerd Jaycees fishing Tournament. The holes are evenly spaced and predrilled so basically at a cannon start you start fishing. The biggest fish wins 1st place but prizes are not in descending order. Say 21st place wins a new rod and reel but 100th place wins a snowmobile. More of a fun day than a fishing trip from what I can gather. It makes sense to people from Minneysoda.

you know I was looking at that picture and thinking theres a lot of holes in that ice and a lot of beer bellys on top of it I'm not sure I'd want to fish out there but just think of the perch searching you could do the next day  ;D

That spot looks like a local lake looked last year after someone posted in here that the 'gills hitting.  1 acre spot 150 guy's.

Sports Illustrated had a picture similar to that in an issue last ice season. That looks like it would be fun to be part of.

Fished an event like this on simcoe in Ontario....its something to see in real life ....never seen so many icefishermen in one area....only problem....too hard to catch fish...lol.. Hardwaters coming...tightlines

The only difference in that lake and Whitney Point is at W/P you have to drill your own holes.

The pic is for real!  The contest is being held on Forest Lake, not Pelican in Brainerd.  It is $35 to enter and 1st place is a Truck, 2nd is a Boat and Trailer and then the prizes get real goofy.  I fished a contest in Chaska, MN on a 4 acre lake that had 2000 contestants, Not kidding.  The contests are a blast, but the odds are not in the serious fisherman's favor.  I was ten feet away from the 2nd place fish the first year.  That was a 9# 6oz Pike and 1st was 10#+.  That was on the 4 acre lake!
