Yamaha Timber wolf 4x4 250
« on: Aug 08, 2021, 08:00 PM »
Is a 250 ATV good enough for Ice fishing?  Pulling my house through snow?   I saw a 1999 Yamaha Timber wolf 4x4 for $600 in my area.

Or should I get a bigger one?

Depends on the size of the house and how much snow I have used a 2 wheel drive kawasaki wheeler to pull things around on the ice.

Got to remember a Timber Wolf 250 is only 230 CC. Might pull sleds and such but nothing like a 4x8 or 8x8 house. At least not through much snow.

All these things have enough power, given they have low gears, but traction is the issue. Traction is tread and weight. These are lighter units, but if you put chains on I would bet they can pull plenty.

I'd be interested in where you saw this for sale.  We don't get much ice in my area but still have to walk long distance to get on good fish in some places. Please let me know.

Until ya knock the gears right out of an underpowered one.

You'd smoke the belt before you got too far if the conditions aren't right

no belt, its 5spd w/shaft drive. They're pretty light with short tires and not a whole lot of ground clearance. It'll pull a sled across the ice but would probably struggle to drag a large house through the snow
