Almost done with my new ride
« on: Aug 07, 2021, 06:36 PM »
So the snowmobile that my brother gave me(see old post) had way to many issues and was going to cost to much for make it reliable. So strip it down to the tunnel, free up the bogie wheels, and build a track sled. Still waiting on my throttle parts and a 12 volt DC electric motor and headlight. I should be able to run the DC motor (rated for 3000 to 8000 RPM's) off the jack shaft as a generator, using a solar panel controller as a voltage regulator to charge the battery and run the headlight. Just running the throttle by hand, this thing is a beast.

Fun project!  With much snow there may be somewhat of an issue turning, the 1" tubing will get a workout, possibly an area to beef up? just a thought.

Love it! Any idea how much it weighs?

some cross bracing on that handle and a guard for the chain and sprockets for safety! Looks like you put alot of thought into it! Nice job and enjoy passing the walkers on the ice!

After a few tweaks here and there, I think she's done. Just have to wait for ice and snow and see how she go.

Well this is pretty cool.  My track sled is now the cover picture for the Facebook group Track Sled Builds of the North.

Great build, that'll work nicely. Only suggestion is turn the auger around, in case you hit a bump or wreck. You don't want the business end pointed at you even if it has a cover on it.

Got a dusting of snow in the yard last night. Took the track sled for a test drive on snow.  Holy cr@p. That thing is wicked fast....or at least felt like it. Much different than driving on grass. Can't wait for ice so I can blow by the walkers on the way out and pass them still walking on way back in. Ha Ha Ha. I should be able to reach all the places I wanted to get to but got tired of dragging everything and said, yep far enough.
