customized jigging spoons.....opinions wanted
« on: Nov 12, 2012, 01:43 PM »
decided to grab a used airbrush off of ebay and give it a go! These are 1.25" spoons that I airbrushed with acrylic paint and then top coated. The top coat doesn't show high gloss in the pics but they are extremely glossy!

Critique away!!

Did you consider glow-in-the-dark paint?

Other than that option, you seem to have it down solid!

The real thrill will be when you catch your first fish on a hand-made lure!

Good luck!

Oh yeah I alsmost forgot...do you have eyes with more white/light colored area around the iris?
Just thinking that in deeper waters, there's less light so dark colors won't be visiible.

But then, the fish are usually hunting by smell and sound, so who knows.....

The paint looks great man. I would like to try air brushing eventually. If you want to mod them one step further here is a DIY dropper hook i make using .016in solid copper wire. I very the hook sizes for different species. Never had anything snap the copper.

the eyes are made with reflective tape/stickers....I adhered them and on the green one I dotted the center with black paint then top coated. I have some glow paint that I will be using but these were first prototypes.

I do spend a lot of time deep (40ft plus) jigging for perch and that is what these are intended for.

Thanks for the suggestions!

those look great! im hoping to get into airbrush aswell but too many other projects right now. something else that makes great dropper line is braid. good and strong and its limp. ill often hook a fathead on under a hali and he swims around and does his thing in tight circles. really brings perch in on fire

Hey Mark, shouldn't you be painting shad raps, pointers and jig heads.....and by the way, I will take all the incidental fish [blugill and crappie] that you don't want.
Nice jigging spoons and paint job by the way..Hope to see ya soon on the ice in an undisclosed place that we all go to at first ice.. ok that pretty much gave it away

If we happen upon each other on that cold morning, on that spot, please don't school me and please, please....please don't tell others what I was fishing for! I have an image you know!

The only reason I don't bluegill fish is because I'm always a day behind the "Posse" and the "vacancy" sign is lit up like a Christmas tree!!

Thanks for kind words everybody! I'll be working on some swim jigs today so I might put up some of those. Yesterday the painting session went  awful and I only produced rejects. I felt like cutting off my ear and starting over but instead I went to Wendy's and had a Big Bacon Classic.

Jigmup , would love to buy a few of these from you.
There is only one theory about angling in which I have perfect confidence, and this is that the two words, least appropriate to any statement, about it, are the words "always" and "never."
