Right now I have so many rods that I would feel awkward keeping it.  I think I would have still kept it, but have given it to a friend who doesn't have two pennies to rub together.   
Now that I know that I'd be well within my rights legally, there would be no question about it.

Had an experience today that made me think of this thread....bought $3.50 worth of auger gas at Fleet Farm, gave the guy four one-dollar bills....he gives me $17.50 in change!!!! Gave it back to him, told him he owes me .50 cents, not $17.50..."OH....thanks!!" Thought about it on the way home, saw it as no different than taking money out of an open till. Couldn't do it any other way... :)

honesty is always the best policy you will be rewarded,no its not an easy decision but it is after you do it someone will enevitabally tell you when you get skunked you should have told them

Definitely give it back. I have inadvertently left a rod or tackle box on the lake. Does that mean it is whoever finds it. I would return the item and have a good feeling that it will come back in return.
