the new flame king heater that came out has a thermostat which is a great idea but not sure it will work
years ago i took a old wall heater screwed some 2x4 to the sides of it to make it stand on its own and tried it on the ice bad idea
it had a built in thermostat and so being on the ice guess what it always sensed it was cold so ran full blast at all times so
im wondering if anyone has used one yet and is mr heater laughing at flame king thinkin thats why we havent put a thermostat on our heaters yet

I am seriously considering picking ne of these up (because of the thermostat.
I would loe to see some real world testing in a flip over while it is sitting on the ice.

I would think Mr Heater would of incorporated an adjustable thermostat on their product if it was feasible...maybe in a camping tent or on a porch setting ...in an ice setting not so much ...look where the thermostatic sensor is placed ..6:14 mark

The video is 14:22 and you say I should go to 14:23?
Seriously though, I think it may work if you put it up off the ice.

I have the Mr Heater Portable in my 2-person flip over. Heat rises and so top of hut gets warm but bottom stays cold. I use a small fan to circulate the air and just turn the heater off when warm enough and back on as the inside gets cold. I am not sure a thermostat would change that.

How long until there's a thread about someones sled burning down because they forgot to turn the pilot off before they pack up for the day?
-
Nothing is idiot proof but Mr H has been out a long time and I have never heard of that happening.
-
Lol im more worried about my mr heater lighting more than burning something down with it.
-
i've seen wet farts put out mr heater pilot lights.

Lol…no way could a MR heater be packed away and burn a tent. Once tipped it shuts off. Also the pilot light blows out with a sneeze….

I’ll wait until I see some real reviews from early adopters. Sounds like a great idea but I’ll let someone else go first.

I am also interested to see how well these will work out on the ice. I haven't had a big buddy heater since I got rid of my flipovers about 6-7 years back and that was always just a little bit chilly at the medium setting, or I'd be melting my face off at the max setting. If this flame king works as it should I might have to grab one. For now I'll stick with my heater/cooker.

My regular Buddy cooks me out on low in my Otter Cabin. Can't imagine a Big buddy being needed.

I think your otter is either insulated well, or has a good quality cover.
My little buddy cooks me out in my eskimo wide one inferno that is insulated. In my older clam voyager non insulated…I can run a big buddy on high and still be cold. Usually takes a MR heater cooker to keep it warm enough.

Nope AG, I’m just like Otter built it. It is insulted. I will say I’m usually bundled up pretty good and walking or taking a 4 wheeler out but as soon as the permanent can go out I’m an ice fishing couch potato.

The last time I owned a Big Buddy was back when I used my old uninsulated flipover. We would sometimes go out when it was -20° to -30° F so the extra heat was needed. It's pretty rare we go out when it gets that cold anymore, plus I have an insulated Otter hub now so the heater/cooker is usually set on the low or medium settings nowadays.

not a good spot for the thermostat for sure. back would have been better imo. if you had it up off the ice a couple feet would help that.
it rarely gets below 0 here so never needed to fool with a heater. come to think of it, never needed one the days i did fished @ -10 either. lol i am getting older and colder though these days. could be in my future!
