Snow in the forcast, right.  I'm over two hours away, at the speed limit.  We never make absolute plans in the Winter.  Can always reschedule.  More to come, later.

Well Guys I was out this afternoon and we still had 8" of ice on the North Shore. Was talkin with two guys who had just been fishing south Shore off Lymans and they said it was better Ice over there.  I watched em catch two pike in about 1/2 hr, 24" and 22".
Looks like a go to me unless we get a major storm and nothing big is called for. Got some cold weather coming to lock up the little bit of water on top and we should be okay.  But everybody bring cleats as its slippery right now.
Good Luck and I'll see you all Sat Morning.

Are guys from Northern Indiana welcome?  There is about six of us who would come up.  It's about a five hour drive for us but if you locals wouldn't care we would maybe make the trip.
How's the bite? I have read reports on the northerns, how about gills and crappies?
Thanks,
Big Pond

I only see 2 launches, one on the northeast side of the lake and one on the southwest side of the lake.   Which will be used, the sw State Park?

I think the 2nd map that I posted just answered my question.   I see a DNR ramp on the south side of the lake now, in the middle.    Sorry for the confusion, but it wasn't on my garmin map software.

Just to confirm, is it the one near the tip up town marks on the map?

FidelCasserole, where did you get that map at? It looks better and more detailed then the one I have. Is there a link?

Thanks in advance!

If the ice is eight or more inches, we should have no problems with ATVs.  I have not been up yet this year, but suspect they are running all over the lake.  I'll have my Quad, and could pull my 5 X 8 trailer, as long as the snow is not too deep.

Hey Mike, as we are  last years "2" do we get special treatment?  Maybe the fish Gods will be pulling for us.  Hope so.  I'll be up Friday afternoon.  In time to get things ready, and enjoy a good fish fry somewhere.

I am seriously thinking about heading up there but have a couple of questions.

How far out will we be going and/or will a ride be available for all of us if it's a ways out?    Any way to point it out by depth on the map I posted above?

How long do you guys plan to fish?   (Need to figure out how much food/drink supplies I need to bring and which shanty to bring)

Bait wise....I already have about 6 suckers for pike, should I just get walleye minnows or perch minnows?   I would like to target walleye but I am not sure what the hot spot is going to be yielding.

What time do you plan to leave the launch...7:30 dead on?    It will be a drive for me and I would hate to get there 15 minutes late and miss a ride out so I want to make sure I am EARLY   lol

Hey Guys: I'll try to answer the questions.

We will prob leave close to 8:00 and we will have radio on channel 7 as well as my
cell phone 989-302-0608

Fisher 50 will have his 4 wheeler there and a trailer to haul gear if no too much snow, shouldnt be.
we wont be too far out so it isnt too hard on anyone, and almost all  types of fish from pike, gills and eyes should be available and maybe perch.

Good luck all and see you Sat at the Launch.

PS Breakfast early at Garrets Restaurant  6:30 AM, across the street from McDonalds at main Red light.

No problem for the links, I want everyone to do well.  I am pretty sure that I will show up, I just want to make sure I go to the correct place.   I think I have the place mapped on my GPS now, but if anyone has the cords please post.  I'll be driving up that morning so hopefully I'll make it on time.  I will make a call tomorrow to see if I can borrow a radio.

 Once again life ain't playing fair  I hope the outing is an especially safe and successful time. I ain't dead yet, so there's plenty of time for many other outings. But I just wanted to gripe, that I can't come out and play.

I don't have a cell phone, technology is bad...unless we're talking ice fishing gear!

I should be able to dig up a radio at the least, so I shouldn't have any problems getting ahold of you guys.    I still have one last question about the launch, is it near the city of Prudenville or Houghton Lake?    I just checked another lake map that I have and it shows a launch near Prudenville (Point A?) and I was under the impression that there was one close to Point B?     Thanks for the help!!

Point B is where it's at.  Signs are not real easy to see.  West of Spicers.   Real close to the drug store - Quite sure it's a Rite-Aid.  Turn North off of M-55 at the light and entrance to the DNR site is down just a short ways.

The launch/ramp is at point "B" - Townline Rd. - Another landmarks are the Pizza place on the northwest corner, Veto's or Vito's (Spelling?) ,the golf course on the southwest corner and the Pine's Theater on the southeast corner. The Rite Aid is block east of there, there's a road end there but you cant get into the DNR launch from that street. The HL visitors center is right there across from the highschool, they got all kinds of maps and information there!

Ok, I think this will be my last question, hopefully!

Is the lake snow covered or just a sheet of ice from the warm weather?     I'd rather bring my largest shanty for the comfort factor so ice would be best for me, in case I decide to move around a bit after we all get out there in the morning.

I am going to leave the house around 5 am and should make the bait shop by 7:45 or so, according to mapquest.    I think I'll make it earlier,   172 miles, divided by 75 mph gets me there in 2 1/2 hours if I add a bit of time for M55 having a lower speed limit.
