New to Southern NY and new to ice fishing. Wanted to say hello! Will be following this thread. Looking forward to getting out there this winter.

Welcome to the board.  There is a lot of knowledge to learn from here, Its been tough lately as the ice has been limited these past few years and the board slows when the weather warms.  There is a sister site that many of us move to for open water season: http://www.myfishfinder.com

Dont be afraid to ask questions, we were all new once.

Good Morning Everyone,
32* with partly cloudy skies, high of 63 forecasted here today.

Marv…so sorry to read that about your Father-In-Law. Our Sincere Condolences to Jo, Jen & Family on the loss of their Dad. May he RIP. 🙏
Bud….Sincere Condolences to You & Family on the passing of your niece. May she RIP.  🙏

H2…glad you had a good wrap up of the bowling season last evening!   I’m not familiar with 8 pin, no tap…will have to google that…sounds interesting though!! Hope your wife has a good appointment this morning.
Jeff…hope your therapy session goes well this am!   What a great game that was yesterday. I was rooting for Iowa and Caitlin Clark for the win on one hand and South Carolina to finish with a 38-0 victory on the other, lol! It was certainly exciting! Hopefully tonight’s men’s Championship match will be similar.
FH4…thanks for sharing the pictures of your outing and the expo!  Better luck with the fishing next trip and Very nice display of your wife’s goods at the expo. Maybe they’ll move the date back to February again after seeing the limited crowd and sales this year.
Wally…looks like you and Mr.WW have some of the best seats in the house for the eclipse today!
Steve…Governor Hochul and company didn’t pass the Budget yet….maybe they’ll see clearly after the eclipse?   ;D

Yesterday’s warmer weather and abundant sunshine just about wiped out the snow here yesterday. Today’s 60* plus temps should take care of the rest. I’m still not comfortable enough yet putting the snowblower away, will wait for May.
Excitement for the eclipse is building up more and more by the minute…make sure to wear your glasses today! Cawfee’s still on!!
Have a great day all, be safe, best of luck to those fishing!

29* and clear.

IFF, sorry about the loss of your niece.

WS, give my condolences to your wife, sorry for his loss.

Had a pretty good night at the Hi/Lo's, my partner had 2 300's and a 265. It was 8 pin, no-tap. There were quite a few 300's.

The wife has an early appointment for an ultrasound.

Remember it is going to get "dark" early today!!!

Be well....h2l

              Good morning ER's,
It's 36* and clear here on my hill. ::)
Bud............My condolence to you and your family for your nieces passing, way too young. :(
Fish............That's quite array of goodies that they sell. I don't know if your kids were on spring break or not but that might had
something to do with the low turnout.
Wally .........It looks like you are in a good position to see the eclipse.
Eddie..........I hope you got to watch the women's championship game, but it was heartbreaking that Iowa lost. In my opinion South Carolina
out rebounded Iowa the whole game.
I have an early therapy appointment this morning.
I hope everyone has a good Monday either at work or out. Stay Safe and Healthy.

Maybe you just smell bad? ;D

I can't really say for sure, unless your group is only getting like 3-4 pike a day, in which case you are probably just unlucky. Especially in those shallow weedy bays, the bite there can be there and gone in a week or two, usually right at first ice. After the weeds start to die, a lot of fish tend to either go deeper, or just find better weeds. I don't know anything about lake Ontario, but Braddock bay looks like one of those bays that is great at first ice, and dead 2 weeks later. I'm assuming they come back in there to spawn in the spring too if you can go out then. If there is safe ice on the main lake, I would definitely get out of the bay.

I actually was working on that theory that i smell bad as other places i fish never get flags either
100
Used pike minnows never had any luck any luck i had were on bass minnows (both were golden shiners 4-6" for bass (8-10" for pike is my guess)

I was using the silver steel leaders if that makes a difference

I have been right next to people before and will fish the same spot the next weekend & the same stuff goes on
Braddock bay(4' of water all around and weedy) set 1-2' below ice 3-5' of water at conesus (6-10' of water where i fish with weeds)

The 20lb mono didnt get a bite
Are there any other reasons you can think of a fish consistantly won't bite for 1 person

Maybe you just smell bad? ;D
