Rapid Pole Slide System for Fishtraps?
« on: Oct 19, 2009, 11:01 AM »
I see the new Rapid Pole Slide System on this year's Fish Traps and would love to add them to our Yukon.  It's a pain trying to push those little buttons with cold fingers and this system looks like it will solve that problem.  Does anyone have any idea if they can be purchased yet?  I looked on Clam's web site and don't see them.  I see what appears to be the replacement buttons, but not the RPS pieces.

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

I emailed Clam earlier today and quickly received this reply:

Good Morning
We do offer the RPS (8 pack for $9.95).  You can purchase them on our website http://clamcorpstore.com
These work great.

Ok, so I look at the website again and see the following listed on this web page:

http://clamcorpstore.com/searchresult.aspx?CategoryID=409

RPS Push Buttons, Large (1 1/4") 8 pk   $9.95

RPS Push Buttons, Small (7/8") 8 pk   $9.95

So I'm now waiting for a reply back as to which size is best for last year's Yukon.

If I can get these on for about $20 (assuming I need two sets) I'll be a happy camper.

Jeff

You will only need one pack and the smaller set will work.

Thanks.  I was thinking I only needed four for each side on the Yukon.  I assume the 7/8" and 1 1/4" is for different size poles?

Wow, for that price, I think I'm going to have to order a set for my Pro as well. I've already taken a big bite out of my one finger, and it hasn't even been outside my living room yet!
A bad day of fishing beats anything else I'd be doing today.....

Ordered two sets of the 7/8" RPS system today after receiving an e-mail back from Clam confirming that was the correct size.  I know I only need one set, but I'm the kind that keeps spares around for everything.  Can't wait until they get here to get them installed and try them.

How do these Rapid pole slide systems work vs the push button poles.  I always have a problem with the push button and have pinched my finger more than once.  Can someone explain how they work?

Pretty self explanatory.  Use the RPS tabs instead of fingers and thumbs!

UPS delivered the RPS clips this afternoon.  I have the Yukon set up in the garage and it took a total of 2 minutes to install the RPS clips.  Talk about Sweet!!  I had my wife come out and check them out and she about flipped.  She had a harder time than I did last winter getting those little buttons pushed in.  The instructions say to position them then wrap black electrical tape around them to hold them in place, but I'm going to try it without the tape to begin with, as they do not seem to move any.

This is looking like the best $8.95 that I've spent on gear/upgrades yet!

Would the 7/8 be the right size for a pro?

I assume so since the 7/8" was correct for the Yukon.  I belive the bigger size is for the bigger Traps, but I don't know for sure.  I suggest e-mailing Clam and asking.  They were quick to respond to both of my questions, responding to each on the same day that I asked.

I just bought an X2.  i didnt want the new models because of the new seat design.  anyways, i saw the RPS clilps on the new voyager at the store and bought a pack of them at the same time as a bought my X2.  finished putting it all together and used the RPS clips.

The RPS clips WILL need some tape. they move allot when trying to use them.  but... if you look at how they come standard on the new voyager i know a better solution.  the new voyager has two holes near the end of the pole (1 for the botton to poke through) and another a couple inches back where the circular tab on the inside of the RPS pokes through the pole so that is does not slide.

I think you could drill a hole in the poles from the older models to hodl the RPS clips in place, so they would be installed just the same as the way they are on the new traps.

not sure if i am clear, let me know if i can clarrify my thoughts.

I was going to order some, but the shipping is just as much as the item.  Maybe I'll wait till they hit the stores and pick some up.  Just not worth over $20 to me.

SkeeterJeff,
I didn't like the push button dealies that came with my Fish Trap Pro last year and called Clam to express some concern.  They sent a replacement set at no cost.
They work much better than the originals and are in fact a pleasure to use.
The button itself seems to be longer than what the Pro came with and there is no "crown" that gets caught up like on the originals.
Good Luck,
JOhn.

My push buttons broke and fell inside the poles. Now I have to put a bolt in the hole so it will stay up.
If fishing was work I'd never be sick!

I have seen this in a couple local shops in Ontatio. I was thinking about picking up a set, but wanted to see if anyone here had used them and what there thoughts where. Clam is very hit or miss with me....they put out some much new product each season, and only some of it is worth the cash..others are gimmicks or garbarge
