Using a Spoon to get the Fish's Attention?
« on: Dec 27, 2007, 11:47 PM »
I read in an outdoor magazine today that some people will tie a spoon without a hook on there line above the jig to get the fish's attention for small fish like perch, I was woundering would this work for pike?

I added a spinner spoon like on a walleye crawler harness on my quick strike rigs. I bought the removeable clip so I can change colors or remove the blade completely. I've had good success with this setup.

Sometimes before putting a tip up down, I will jig a dodger for a few times for some flash.  I don't know if it helps or not but it gets the dust off of them in the winter.  I have done red/white spoons with out hooks, for spearing and their have been many days where they were my top producer.

Almost every one of my tipups has a spoon on it for flash & weight. I started doing it a long time ago & it does make a difference for me.

i usually set my tip up depth and then pull the tip up line out of the hole, still set and everything. Then i take the biggest len thompson spoon and put it down and jig it like 5 times, spoon comes out tip up line goes down. flags usually come within 5 minutes

I have jigged a swedish pimple next to my tip-ups while perch fishing on Sebago. Seemed to be working. :)
Looking forward to some "crappie" nights!
