What are ice conditions like in Hayward? Still a lot of snow and slush?

Yup. Slush getting not so bad but snow still deep enough I am afraid to drive out for getting stuck in snow. Snowmobile is no problem unless you hit a big slush spot. Damn this snow is melting slooooow. Still plenty of ice we’ll over 20”. Walking in it is hard, you have that hard layer of crust on top, but not strong enough to support your weight. So you break through with each step. Not a lot of hole hopping going on. I hope to get out this afternoon.

Made it out had 26” of ice. Still no way you would make it with a truck. Snow had a hard crust strong enough to walk on where we were at. A small amount of slush under snow but not bad. 2 of us managed 16 keeper crappies in about 3 hours of fishing. Most on minnows a few on waxie’s. Unless we get a major warm up and a lot of rain these lakes are still going to be frozen for the opener in May.

We were on the chip with wheelers last weekend just had to be careful of where you went. And bring a tow strap.

The killer is that hard crust on top, forcing the tires to break through the crust then slush water on the glare ice underneath.
