To me, I saw a lot of weird ice this year. Some really, REALLY thick ice too. I keep an extension on my kdrill just because I think the things are kinda short, but there were a few times where I was glad I had it. On my ride to work I noticed Stevens Pond in Manchester completely iced out over the weekend. I know it's a tiny pond in Manch, but I was a little surprised to see that. I see some other ponds opening up pretty quickly. So what do you think about the ice out situation in general? Is it going to be late, or is it going to be about normal? We were driving trucks on the big lake last weekend and drilling 25" of ice. What are all the factors involved? There is going to be an immense amount of liquid coming from up north when the 4' of snow that is still in the woods melts. Will that make the big lakes break up quicker? Yes, I am the jackwagon that posts an ice out thread the day hardwater season closes.
My guess for Winni ice out is April 24.
I’m thinking May... I hope I’m wrong.
Thought I would give food for thought! It depends, if I’m right and that makes it sound better than yes, yes I do Mark
I like your approach! Fish seem to like a confident man. Or is that the ladies? I dunno, I can't seem to catch either.
It pains me to think this way, but with the cold nighttime temps isn’t it probably making ice each night? I realize it should still be a net loss, but we really need some warm rainy nights coming up.
It’s not 60 in moultonboro ..we barely got out the 30’s yesterdY ice fishing and it’s going to snow tonight ..we ice fished on a pond in moultonboro yesterday and it had two feet with tight shorelines ..don’t get me wrong I want it over too but it’s still pretty cold up here
I was all over that area today. North end of squam, center harbor area, weirs, glendale, ellacoya. The area near moultonborough was cold and lots of ice. The marina i fished near weirs had skim coat ice around the docks. North end squam still had deep snow. Saunders bay area and around governors island bridge looked close it has that color. Glendale still has alot of ice but colors changing. I think that area will be troll worthy by the end of the week. Meredith bay has the look too. I fished 3 areas on winni and several streams. Everything looks nice in the rivers clear water nice flow good pools. No fish to be had. Didnt even see one.
Take a peek at the website cams, all its gonna take is a big sneeze from mother nature to open up the main lake...some of the sheltered bats may hold on a bit but the snake eyes cam has her ready to toss her cookies.
