Additionally, here is the link to a well written synopsis of how the introduction of opossum shrimp (Mysis diluviana) led to a trophic cascade in the Flathead Lake ecosystem. IMHO, a case of good initiative, bad judgement:

Great article!
The TL;DR version for those that don't want to read it is...
Lake trout were present for 80 years present to the mysis, in low numbers. Shrimp show up providing an abundant food source. Macs multiply, eat more salmon. Salmon go away.

Missoulafish, I started reading your summary, but lost interest part of the way through. Could you summarize the article in fewer words?  It would help those of us with short attention spans. Thanks.

I've seen a couple posts that reference a size limit.  This must be a lake-specific rule, because I can't find where the Helena valley regulating Res has any such requirement.  The general kok regs state 10 fish as a limit.  Is there another spot in the regs I need to look for size limit other than the D2 exceptions for the reg res?

The size restriction mentioned is for Little Bitterroot Lake in NW MT.

bullnbow possibly try smaller hooks.  I find the 16-18 size the best some days... other days you can get a full set of trebles in those kokes on G-town.

I fine a Swedish pimple with hook removed 8 to 12 inch of heavier line and a blue Hailey's with a maggot or Berkeley maggot. And wait for the bite.   Usually in 35 to 45 ft on echo lake

Yep...I like dropper set ups...but I use them shorter... 3-4" under...along with a good spring bobber set-up...set the rod on a bucket and watch for bites on that bobber.  Homemade metallic ice flies under a 1/16 to 1/8 oz spoon...vary color combos to the day.

I had some luck at Georgetown lake last weekend using a pink and silver spoon.  We were getting them anywhere from the bottom up.

Dead man's has kokes in it. The Swedish pimple rig works well.
