old town in middle of Holter lake
« on: Feb 03, 2015, 10:04 PM »
Sorry this doesn't have to do with fishing totally but does anyone know any history on the (old town?) that can be seen under the water out in front of, I think log gulch, in holter? You see it fairly plain on google earth.

It's probably when the last hot perch bite was happening everybody was out there in wooden ice shantys and a chinook came up and melted the ice instantly... ;D

I don't know anything about this.  I thought you were referring to a canoe.

We spent all of our summers up at the ranch at the head of Holter (It’s the FWP site now).  We went around that lake hundreds of times and there wasn’t a town out there.  It was all lake then.  This would have been at least 55 years ago.  The bar/lodge was always on shore!
If I am wrong it would be interesting to know.  (Global warming???????)

X2!
That's more cool photos and info than I have ever seen on the Canyon Ferry dam and the north end of the lake. Way more than what's in there little visitor center there.
Thanks

it also shows you exactly how walleye got in Canyon ferry, despite the fish n games conspiracy theories about bucket biologist the walleye were in Hauser and when they built the second damn they introduced walleye to Canyon ferry reservoir.

Very interesting read. In the "west of Helena" section there is information about the old Pine Hills Golf Course which was about a mile east of Rimini/Priest Pass road. There is a satellite image showing the layout including the tennis courts and pro shop. Problem is, the course closed in 1923 and we built the tennis court shown in 1972. Can't always be right, I guess.
