I didn't know upsata has pike....Any size to them? I also lived in Missoula for 6 years of my life.
Gotta love the resident wanna be biologists around here. Inez has some great perch fishing. In fact I would not be surprised if the next state record comes out of that lake. You need to fish deep for them there though. 40' seems to be a good depth. Thats where we hit them late last year, that is unless them good ol hungry pike ate them all. LOL Sorry it just cracks me up the comments I hear about Pike around here ruining the fishing. Just because they were introduced illegally dont mean they are the most evil fish on the planet. Most of these lakes have adjusted just fine. I have caught some of the my largest Bull trout in years in the same waters inhabited by these same pike. Salmon lake is the same way. Great Brown trout fishing by the inlet, move down 20 to 50 yards and maybe the best pike hole on the lake. Lots of perch also. I do wish people would fish more for the pike though so we could keep the population under control and grow some bigger ones since they are obviously here to stay. They taste almost as good as perch once you fillet them and get rid of the bones.
You know from someone that's fished seeley for the last 32 years, they've had an impact on the fish. As a kid I could catch 50 perch off our dock in a half hour. Can't do that anymore. Used to be bass nesting under the dock every year. Not anymore. Used to be a bass tournament on seeley. Not anymore. Used to be you could catch a limit of good size trout and salmon in about an hour and a half. Ask anyone that lives or spends a good amount of time up there and they'll tell you that the pike have effected the fishing.
Fished the north end on sat as well. hey gadgetman, I must have said hello to you and your daughter on the way to my spot. Lots of mini perch but a couple keepers in the mix. Not much for food in their bellies, but full of eggs and milt. Does this mean they're positioning to spawn, or is that time of year still a ways off?
ya that was me on the atv. that was the first time ever ice fished there. just might have to try it again.gadget man you have one good fishing partner there she held out longer then mine did.
