Help with glow in the dark treble hooks
« on: Nov 17, 2022, 11:41 AM »
A few years ago I bought some treble hooks from Northland Tackle that were dipped in glow in the dark (red) paint (not over the barb)....... I attribute a lot of my success, compared to the guys I fish with, to those hooks.  I've even put a bare hook down in soft water and the fish came right up and bit it.  I called them and they don't make them any more.  Does anyone know of anywhere I could buy some - or have any of you experimented with dipping your own hooks in glow in the dark paint ??  If so, if you could tell me the brand and where you get it I'd appreciate it.  I wish I bought more than I did a few years ago ..... thanks in advance for any help.

I have not tried dipping.  But I do use Testors (model paint) on some of my jigs and it works great. You could try that. Pretty sure they make glow or at least hi-vis paint. Paint them white first for brighter appearance. Hope this helps.

May want to consider these--single hooks commonly used in fly tying and state "SUBTLE GLOW ATTRACTS FISH":

Guess I only knew they did have glow hooks...had ordered some leadheads from them. I figgered they'd have trebles, but I'm not big on posting links and reading thru all of them.....always figure the OP can do that themselves.

You can also easily heat the hooks up and dip it in powder paint keeping barbs and points out of the paint then bake at 350 for 20 minutes.testors enamel works good too i dot eyes on jigs with nail salon dotters they use on nails.

Are you talking about this type of hooks? Traditional Swedish/Finish jigging hooks. I make these myself using combinations of chenille yarn with colored epoxy resin, or just all epoxy resin in different color combinations. They work great for me.

Not exactly the kind of colored treble hooks that you had used in the past, but Amazon carries these hooks, some of which are glow in the dark.  I highly recommend trying these under a vertical jig for perch (white and yellow) and all kinds of trout. I suspect walleyes will take a keen interest as well, but there aren't many where I normally fish. I rarely bother with any bait/organic material on them, but when it's slow, spiking them with a maggot or pinkie often does the trick.

They are ;)

It's a lot like tying flies but for ice fishing, apart from the colored epoxy resin and glitter infused epoxy.

Thanks! The fish love'em, for sure. They're time consuming to make with multiple steps, but it's a stimulating way to pass time while you wait for the temp to drop.
