Marcum Recon 5
« on: Nov 30, 2018, 06:35 PM »
Hi guys, does anyone else have a problem viewing the screen when using outside during the day. When in shelter it works  great but cant see anything outside of shelter or when open water fishing off side of boat.

A bad day of ice fishing is better than any day at work!

I have the Recon 5+ & on bright days it's hard to read the screen. Still a great tool to quickly find fish

Sometimes. Part of it has to do with water clarity too. I've dropped in stained water and I can't see 2 inches. Imagine my surprise when I hit some clear water and could see 8 - 12 feet. Mine is still new but if there's a contrast adjustment, cranking that up will help viewing in unshaded conditions.
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

My friend has an older model underwater camera and it came with a blinders that you can attach to the side of the screen to block out glare.  I'm sure you could rig up something as simple as a cardboard box to shield the sides so you can see the screen better.  His older model you really need to get your face into the blinders, almost like a stereoscope or the thing at the RMV they use to check your eyes.  However, it does let you see the screen on bright days.

You usually can, but on full sunny days you angle the sunshield to block screen glare. I also use my hood to shield screen. It's usefulness outweighs the negatives. Software interface/ editing sucks w/ the Recon series too

Funny thing you mentioned this because icetilt and I were just talking about this yesterday and I do not recall anyone else ever mentioning this as a solution.
Just add water.
