New England peeps looking for a sled
« on: Nov 21, 2019, 10:40 AM »
This isn't mine but as a snowmobile addict I am always looking at CL: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2977/1576/files/NEWESTOPERATINGTIME_1296x.PNG?v=1574163449

That is a great machine for fishing and this one looks to be in great shape. Just a heads up. I am only posting to hope someone else buys it- I am tempted to pick it up as a spare!

Looks like it is still for sale!

No reverse or e-start but that is a terrific ice fishing sled. Fan cooled, probably around 400 lbs and a two up with a rack and a long track. I am almost tempted to buy it. I've owned a half dozen Indys in my life, really good sleds and easy to work on. That one looks cherry!

I've been eyeing that one myself.  I have a 1991 version of the exact same snowmobile (mine has reverse).  I bought it last year and it was awesome.  The red one on CL right now looks pretty cherry though.

Best of All in NH you can register that as an antique and register it once and never have to register again.  I think its a 1995 so you would probably have to wait until 1/1/2020 to register as an antique.  Thats not too far off though.

Yeah, it's not exactly a rock bottom price for a 25 year old sled but it's in great shape. Yes, antique reg would be a huge bonus. I like the long track and it's a light machine. Perfect ice fishing machine.

I'm curious what you look for in an ice fishing machine.  I'm not handy in the least so I'm hesitant to pick up a used machine but they seem priced well and are simple machines from my understanding.  What are some boxes that should be checked for an ice fishing machine?

My ice fishing snowmobile requirements may be different from others but here goes:

Fan Cooled motor - Can run with little to no snow and mechanically simpler, easy to work on if I have to.  I have very basic mechanical skills but not an expert by any means.
Long track with a rack on the back - Tracks in good shape, no tears
Starts easy, runs good
Has a hitch for dragging your jet sled / shanty
Over 25 years old in NH so you can register as an antique.  Otherwise its about $100 per year to register and constantly going up.

Mind you I am not looking to buy the fastest snowmobile on the lake.  In fact I probably have one of the slowest.  But it will get up over 50 mph without trying too hard and thats enough for me.

Here is a picture of my setup on Ossipee Lake:
