Trapping shiners in a river?
« on: Dec 15, 2004, 12:10 PM »
Looking to trap some bait.

Tried this last year and the river froze over and never saw the trap again. It was behind my buddies house and he said he has never seen it freeze up like that.

Going to try this again this year. I have a med sized wire trap. Any suggestions from those doing this with some success?

I use the readily available bucket minnow trap....once i chisel out the hole, i just cover it with a piece of plywood that has 2 inch styrofoam bonded to it...then cover with enough snow so that i dont have to spend much time opening it up when i pull the trap....works for me....Grump
