Open water catfishing is here!

       Some friends of mine are catching the Cats from shore. just about anywhere south of the bridge.
      This happens every spring around here. I think all that winter kill really gets them purring!!!
        Heres a couple of pics from last spring, just days after ice out. Other times we have had to fish between the sheets of ice floating by. Lots of fun and good eatin!!

Champlain Bridge. I hear the bite good this time of year into May, they catch them right under the bridge.

How you guys fishin that, and what kind of bait

          Right from shore with long rods size 2 hook and a half to 3/4 oz flat sinker
       for bait anything will work! We use crawqlers and shrimp from the supermarket$$$$Pricey but stays on the hook well. Buy the frozen stuff uncooked with the shell on. Lots of perch are being caught too.
          We use the flat pill shaped sinkers because they dont roll and where we fish there is quite a bit of current rolling up the lake. Good luck!!!

I caught three channel cats on a Bass trip in southern Illinois a few years back.... glad we hooked into the cats .... they were tasty. Not many places to fish em around here.
