When I bought one it was an 8 but measured 7.5", they had to change their marketing plan to minimize the complaints or false advertising or whatever....

Yes now they advertise 6" 7.5" and 8.5 " Sold as true size now.

All ice augers are made in either China, Japan, Sweden, Germany, Russia and several other forgin countries. The K-Drill owned by Vexilar are made in China. They all use Metrc measurements millimeter, centimeter. The U. S. A. Uses a "Standard" measurement 1inch. The 7.5" auger is 19cm or 7 39/40 and the 8" auger 21.5cm or 8 24/25. Just like 1/2" plywood ia actually 15/32 made in China. We just market them to standard dimensions close to what customers understand.

Am I missing something "important" here? Manufacturers advertising something that isn't exact. So 10" might actually be 9.5" or whatever. I'm not seeing the big deal. That's like me telling the butcher "I wanted a pound of burger, not 15.5 oz". Not gonna squabble over a minor detail. As I asked...what am I missing?

OK, Last year and before K-drill advertised 8" Augers. They were only 7.5". After everyone complained they now have 8.5" and 7.5" augers. True size like everyone else has. Not a big deal anymore. But it was a big deal last year when they said it was an8" when it was only 7.5". Now everyone can unwind their Pany's and not worry about it anymore.

It happens all over, my wife is convinced that 6 inches is a foot long!

Well calling a 7.5in áuger an 8in isn't a minor detail. If you use a slush inhaler, or a one shot skimmer to clean your holes an 8in one will not fit down the 7.5in hole. Which in a wheel house makes cleaning out the holes a PITA. So much so I don’t use it in the wheel house.

I'm selling my 7.5" with an extra set of new blades. I'd like the 8.5" and it's still rated for use with the MKE drill motors.

My 8.5" came yesterday. A bit beefier, but I like a bigger hole (that's what she said).

I was close to buying it the other day but held off, I like the 7.5 and don't want to sell it. So if I'm getting another I'd rather step up and have a 10 inch around if I need it. One of these companies needs to put out a lightweight 10 inch bit at some point you would think.

Ion finally is in a synthetic. Basically a pistol bit but green. Only available with a power head this year. I would guess next year the 10in auger alone will be offered.

I have seen a lot of guys write reviews on these Kdrill 8.5 s lately. I’m considering getting rid on my auger and running this set up. I normally run a 10” hole on a gas auger but I’ve been getting really sick of starting up an auger in the cold. I really like the idea of a jiffy/Eskimo propane auger but I’m finding it hard to find the power head for a reasonable price. The other thing I’ve been I thought about is the weight. I have a drill that will push a auger so it’s a plus to get to the hole quicker, clean the hole faster, and lighter on gear. I have been following the best auger thread as well to see what guys run with drills.
Is the side of the KDrill plastic or like a poly?
I heard this thing is super light and strong.

Might be on the wrong side of the general opinion here but I really like the 7.5". Its easier on the drill/batteries and that .5 inch is a great compromise considering an 8" is too large of a hole already.

I do a lot of cold weather fishing in NE WI, The 7.5 was just too small after holes started icing up. I carry two 9ah mke batteries and am not worried at all about using them up. The benefit of a larger hole, to me, is worth it.

I hear ya there. Im just a panfish nut and cant afford to go bigger than 6, especially during tournament season. For the few times a year I go to Red/LOTW/Lacs the 7.5 gets me where I need to be. Going on 6 seasons with the 6" and its been used and abused, seen a many (Free) blade sharpenings, and thousands of holes a year and it just holds up to the abuse. Love these things.

House guys don’t care, can’t imagine a hole hopper even considering it. You’re right though, 8 1/2 inch chipper with batteries????
