I just bought some tipups which line do you use? Do you use backer line or just straight fishing line? Fishing for walleyes crappies perch blue gills.

20lb. Dacron, on the spool. What, the fish want? On, the end of it!

I prefer the Vinyl Coated Braid.  It will not freeze, ties strong knots, and is easy on your hands.  The only con is that the diameter is larger than non-coated lines (you can fit less on the spool...)  Put enough on for your fishing depths and plenty of running room then choose your leader and hook set up from there.

Anything will work but I strongly advise using line specifically made for tip-ups!

Go to sponser fishusa.com at the top of site and order some mason tip up line in #36 test. Buy some good ball Bearing Swivels and then get some leader material in the size you want for the species your targeting and tie it to the other end of the barrel swivel about 3 ft to 2 ft length and your all set.
