I have some old herters reels that are about 40 years old, still working, but barely. They were the old metal ones, that resembled a bait caster.  Ive tried those schooleys, but they didnt last very long.  They line tightening adjuster broke on some of mine......Plastic just isnt as durable, imo. id love to find some more of those old herters though.
