Nils vs Fish's ice saw
« on: Nov 19, 2019, 08:11 AM »
Both are around the  same price besides the Nils being in stock at my local shop and the fish's wood have to be shipped from out of country.

Is the nils saw that much better it's worth waiting for or does the nils do the same job?

Thanks

I have a Nils and it works great. The only issue is that it is wicked sharp and very dangerous when open. The blade closed needs to be well covered on this type of saw or there will be blood on your hands, literally.

Never owned or used a Fish's but my Nils seems to get the job done just fine.

Thanks everyone I may be better off ordering the fish's saw. Is it simply just the blade design which makes it a better saw?

I think that Monticatgeek likes the Fish's saw blade better because it is a nice shade of Clam Blue.  ::)  Maybe that has nothing to do with it but he seems to have a certain preference for blue IMO.

The blade design itself seems similar to the Nils and extremely prone to stab and poke stuff that isn't ice if you don't pay attention.

I have Fish's ice saw and it serves it's purpose. When the ice gets 12"-14" it's not nearly as fun as early ice. Much thicker and I break out the chainsaw.

I can't comment on the Nils.

I have had a fish's ice saw for a few seasons now.   Anything less than 10" and it cuts like a dream.  when it gets up to 15" i start to sweat a little.   Saw a Nils saw on the ice last season.  looks to cut the same as fish's
