The Black Majic "Wind Proof" Tip-Up.
« on: Nov 23, 2015, 05:36 PM »
I've been using them for the last 8 yrs and have never had a problem with them. The cam drive system really does work for no wind flags. Anyone else use them.

The link worked but I don't see how the cam works on them,a little pricey to but if they work I guess it's worth it,I set my tip up so the wind is blowing the flag on to the trigger mechanism, and I use big bait on tip ups and sometimes I have to tighten up on the drag a little to keep the bait from tripping the flag

The picture with the back of the spool is part of the cam.  The wire is bent to a 90 degree angle and is activated buy as the spool spins.
The wire goes through the flag through a hole in the flag wire. No matter how hard the wind is blowing it will not go off. I had one get blown out of a hole and dragged 20+ feet on the ice. Still did not set off the flag.

I have seen tip ups like that with a hole in the spring steel, they were real old to my buddy has them they are the cross style tip ups, said he got them at a yard sale a few years ago, there definitely old they used brass for the spools there very well made the trigger mechanism goes through a brass tube on the upright piece of the tip up also

The ones they have on their web site are the newer model. I picked mine up at KTP when they first came out. The older ones had a bow shape down by the spool trigger mechanism not the zig-zag. I did pick up a newer model when I dropped one in the driveway and broke the spool on one of mine. They all work the same

Does the water inside the tube ever freeze? I could see that being an issue.

I've never had an issue. Even at -15 with 25mph wind.

Most tip up tubes are filled with grease.
