Just a skim of ice on Brushy with spots of open water in some bays.

Corny had 5 as of Weds.  Morse was the same, Elm a little less.

Elm has some scary ice! One hole was 7" and 20 use away was an open hole. Careful out there

Cornelia had a guy (or gal)_  in a Clam by the jetty about noon, but Conservation said they hadn't drilled any holes today to be able to say how thick it was.  We'll try tomorrow.

You'll be more than ok. It actually got thicker as you go out

I tried it on the North end just south of the bridge in 10 to 11 feet of water yesterday afternoon. Several small Perch in the 5 to 6 inch range right on the bottom. Had lots of small (5 inch range) Yellow Bass move through around 5 foot down every once in a while.

5 inches plus on the ice in that area.

Good to hear you got some perch.  We caught one perch.  Next year is either going to be a banner year for yellow bass at Corny, or they are going to have to think about renovation.  Ive never seen so many yellow bass.

I hear you Nick, the Yellows are really starting to get thick. Really too bad there wasn't a way to get 1,000 or so 2 to 3 pound Walleyes added to the mix right now because that would make for some big fat eyes in a couple of years and hopefully less Yellows.

I just drove by Corny and there a bunch of vehicles parked in the West parking Lot & they are out in force.

Is it frowned upon to go there and catch 100 of those buffers and toss them in a ditch? I love eating yellows, but won't waste my time clean 5 inchers

You're right Dereck. We had an easy 6 "east of the jetty with 12" or so further east. Just little suckers coming out of the holes though. Brought just 2 gills home to eat. Lots of folks having fun in the sun.

The back waters off the Cedar and Wapsi are producing. My son and a friend had
20 fish in 2 hours and some crappies were 10 - 11 inches!

Made it out to Union Grove State Park today and it was about 3". My Daughter and I stayed about 30' from shore just to be on the safe side. For some reason 6" makes me feel a lot safer ;D

They fished the Wapsi again Sunday...a lot of smaller fish, 4 were 9+ inches, and
are chillin in the freezer!! The Cedar had a report from a backwater, Mud Lake by Palo,
10" gill & 11" crappies, but the water started to seep through the cracks, so they decided to vacate
until more cold sets in.

I would assume the open water was a spring; correct?

Yeah, I guess so! You can see the big spring in the middle so this one was smaller. I didn't want to get too close since I was alone

I would post a report but my Mother taught me not to brag.  :) Honestly though I have only drilled 4 holes this year and I am averaging like 25 total fish per hole. If I keep that up it will be a banner year. I always like these years with so-so ice conditions. All holes on Spirit Lake so far.

Why do people say the didnt want to risk their life bcause they were alone? "Yeah, I didnt want to be resonsible for my safety so I brought someone along so they could be."  What?
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

My wife would want to know if I went in and didn't come back. That's why.

I fished lakes in Buena Vista, palo alto, clay, and Dickinson county this weekend. There was close to 6" most places I fished.  Game on in northwest Iowa!
