Freshwater Smelts with white spots and stuff

Guys-
 Stopedin alocal bait dealer today and was checking out the supply of bait. His smelts had white fungus or spots all over them whats up with that I suspect it was ick or something

it is pretty common.  some lakes have smelts that have those white spots and some don't.  it doesn't effect the bait or how it works.  just looks wierd
