u turn the can upside down and open a lid like u would a can or sardines. Inside there is a button that you push down and hold for 10 secs....some green liquid comes out and mixes with something else.....some ****censored word****ing chemical reaction makes it heat...after 10 secs turn upright and let stand for 5 to 8 mins.....heats pretty hot to

A friend brought some out to the shack, last year. the chemicals don't mix in with the coffee, they just mix under the cup to make the heat, like the hand warmers do. It was a good, hot cup of coffee..  almost too hot to drink, right off.. Certainly not in the same league as Dunkin' Donuts, but not too bad.

I think it would be good for those hikes out to places where it wouldn't be practical to bring a stove. Also tried one of those self heating meals... not bad. again, it doesn't compare to heating up some nice venison on the wood stove, but in a pinch, out in the middle of nowhere, its nice to have something hot to eat/drink.

I have had some of that self warming coffee.  I set my coffee mug down a while, and then
pick it up and drink it after it's cold anyway.  About an hour later, I visit the back side of the
shack, and that coffee steams as it hits the ice!  :D

It's being RECALLED. I wanted to find out how these cans worked and this is what I found:

Wolfgang Puck Self-Heating Latte cans are currently being pulled from shelves after reports of the cans leaking chemicals into the coffee or exploding, according to a recent story from beverage industry publication BevNET. The BevNET story recounts a blame game between licensees, the can's manufacturers, distributors and Wolfgang Puck Worldwide, Inc. The latter apparently requested that the cans be pulled after repeated customer complaints and supposed scrutiny from the FDA. The cans were originally released last spring. Some complaints included reports of a white substance, perhaps the calcium oxide used in the can's heating system, floating in the coffee. A Las Vegas woman also claims she was badly burned by a malfunctioning can that exploded. The cans supposedly heat their contents to 140 degrees. According to BevNET, the company that designed the cans marketed them with the slogan "It does what?"

If you have a can or two, you may want to look it over a bit before drinking it. Or just let it set on the shelf for a few years, maybe it will be a collectors item.  :D  That's if it doesn't explode.  ::)
