Im from Iowa actually.  The reason I said the trout were a joke is simple here.  The only trout we have in Iowa are raised in a cement pond and stocked into small streams and a few lakes.  Personally I think its a waste here in Iowa, apparently we have the put and take methods down.  There are people lined up when the stock truck hits the water, just not much fun in my opinion.  If they were wild fish, that would be different.

Gent's,

My motto is "to each their own" when it comes to anything dealing with the Great outdoors.  What trips my trigger doesn't have to trip yours.  I'll sit on my bucket and jig for Panfish and you can set your tip ups/traps, chase Togue/pike, and have a great time.  We'll shoot the breeze in between fish over a cup of coffee.  I'll even bring and extra jiggin rod just in case your inclined to give jigging a try, heck you might even decide to do that while waiting for that next FLLAAAAAAAG.

The whole purpose of our Panfish gathering is to share the camaraderie of people who love the ICE and all it has to offer.  The 1st outting we had everyone was doing their own type of fishing and it didn't matter the least to anyone.  We all shared venison, chili, smelt (darn good by the way) Coffee etc, etc.  I honestly believe everyone had a great time that day and I look so forward to the next meeting.  I met a great group of FISHERMAN that day and will meet up with them again, of course with my jigging pole in hand  ;D

Good luck to all, God Bless and tight lines to ALL!!!!!
Steve

Took a Steelhead rod to Georgia with me once. Strung on 4# with 2# leader and drift fished Goat Rock Dam on the Chattahootchie. Caught a limit of 10-12" Perch. The folks down there along the river called them "SAND ROLLERS". They allways throw them back cause they thought the sand ruined the meat? Yet they scarfed down carp and cats fishes daily!
I fixed them up with flour and fried em in butter. Now the in-laws in Georgia fish for Perch regularily. The water coming out of the dam is very cool so the Perch swarm the tailraces. This was actually on the Alabama side of the river. The people there classify Perch lower than carp and cats!
Good, more for me!
