Nice fish CK! Seems you need a bigger pan, thats a good problem to have  ;)  How deep did that feller take the bait? I am after trout this weekend.

SLIP- some splake are more laker and others more brookie, especially when they occur naturally, diet too affects the meat. Red and I had a big discussion about splake this summer and I learned quite a bit  :)

We were fishing in about 45 ft of water.. The line was set with a small icicle, 12-15 ft below the ice.

Took a trip up North and did pretty well. I caught my personal best splake yesterday and I beat that today by a good 4inches.. ColdBum Also caught some beauties, and got his personal best pickerel. We took both the fish to the taxidermist today. Now all we gotta do is explain it to the girls... :-\

first fish of the day

Well coldbum was on a role and I only had 2 fish on the Ice so Far, He started bustin on me saying I think I might out fish you today..Then I locked into this beauty.. Took 20 minutes to land and alot of gut wrenching moments when he passed by the hole..

Caught quite a few nice ones today, We released all of them but the 2 that are getting mounted and a small one that was gut hooked bad.. What a beautiful day in the Adirondacks.. 8)

Fergy
I think the pickerel was 27 3/4 or 28 3/4.. I forgot.. Whats it say on the Taxidermy bill coldbum? All I know is the picture dosen't do that pickerel any justice, Because that thing was a freakin hog..
Title: Re: ColdBum & CarogaKid's Adirondack Adventures(*2 for the Taxidermist) 12/14
Post by: coldbum on Dec 14, 2005, 09:17 PM
the pickeral was 26 3/4  and the splake 28 1/4 inches

my second splake of the day was 18 inches very respectable anyother day on old lake tanglefoot

I tell ya what, watching that splake of CK's run and see him do a major retreat when getting close to the hole gets the old blood pumpin

CarogaKid did a first class job playin that splake... no doubt he earned it
and nice job landin that mini toothy CK (bare hands)

caught the pick. on 10lb braided line with a 4lb floro leader.

cant ask for a better day on the ice

Lake Tanglefoot sure is a sweet little lake.  BUT MY GOD IS IT COLD AND WINDY!!!!  Looking forward to making it back when time permits.

Hey, how did the walleye hunters do?  We did OK on the 'other' alpine pond we stopped at on the way home.  The bite turned on just as we were leaving, but we managed a bunch before we ventured home.

Take care, gents, see you soon!

I think it's about a 3hr drive or so. Syracuse is about an 1 1/2hrs from Caroga lake. Here is a map.

it was a fun day on the ice, but the lack of  a trout bite was  a little disappointing!
We will be back out tomorrow hoping to have a little better luck on laker's than we did
the brownies today!

All I can say is I wish we had a video camera! The wind was PHENOMINAL!
Just in case anyone needs to know... a wood pack basket acts like a sail when
it is windy... windy enough to send this 260 lb dude sailing down the ice 80-100 yards!
caroga has some pictures of our adventure soon to come!

I have decided that trout really do not want to cooperate with me this year only a few small
lakers landed today...

to bad on the trout, but the perch and wind I see and hear, kept ya busy.  ;D
Still plenty of time and the hot Feburary bite is knocking on the doors.  ;)

Well Started today off as A nice Calm Peacefull day at " The Redneck Resort". We did a little cooking, some shanty repairs, caught a few fish.. and then all HELL Broke Loose!!!!!

The Biggest Fish of the day.. Caught By ColdBum

We heard a few Cries of help Coming from Outside the shanty.. Opened the door to see our good friend Jay and all of our tip-ups flying across the lake.

Tip-ups  Poping outta the holes!!

There Goes Coldbum..He got blown a good 100 yds down the lake..

While laying on my stomach trying to crawl back to the shanty I had a close incounter with this Cooking Pot... That nearly Missed me

The only way we could make it back Was to Crawl.. There was 1 1/2 inches of water on the ice and that did not make for a pleasent time... I've never seen such fierce winds.. Now I can Honestly Say that I know how that girl from the Wizard of Oz must have felt.... :-[.. Toatal loss for the day was 3 tip-ups, 4 bucket tops,1 cooking pot, a pocket knife that blew away, 1 hat, 2 jackets. I just hope the shanty is still standing tomorrow.
