Flasher
« on: Feb 25, 2020, 01:56 PM »
Does anyone out there use there flasher on there row boat? I would think it would be hard to see you bait with the boat always moving. I know vex makes a transducer for boat use that might help this issue. Any advice ? Thank you.

My fl18 has bottom lock for that very reason.

Have a marcum, but I've used my flasher on my trolling motor on the front of my bass boat a few years. You do need a different transducer. Great for fishing individual pockets in grass, seeing everything under you in real time rather than when you've gone over it, and fishing as close to cover and structure as you can get.

I have used my flasher a few times. Never had much luck with it in open water. Unless I could keep the boat perfectly still. I cant seem to keep my jig under the ducer

Vexilar with bottom lock keeps the display from rocking.i use my vexilar with the open water ducer.but i was using a broken  bottom of a fishing rod with the ducer cord threaded thru the eyes and it sitting in a rod holder.

Keeping the jig under the ducer was my concern, but i will still give it a go this summer. Thanks for the replies.

I leave the flasher at home in the summer. I have a finder on my kayak and use that if I want to jig under a ducer but the problem is the wind blowing the kayak around. Can't keep the jig in the cone for long. On a calm day it works pretty good for crappie fishing.

I dont think I had one calm day on the water last year.  I was beginning to think I was jinxed.

I have used my fl18 in my 14 ft boat for perch fishing, but it was a day with no wind. We were in trees and moved it to different positions in the boat.

I take my fl20 in my boat... More for finding dropoffs and such but i have vertical jigged with it a few times.... I dont have the open water transducer so you gotta be stopped to be effective

I'am going to buy the open water ducer from vexilar and try it out this summer. I believe the ducer is 20 degrees as compared to the 12 degree i have now.
