I heard of a nice brown being caught off Clarke Point 2 weeks ago, but no confirmation. You would think that as many fishermen that are out there that at least a few browns would be reported. They do seem to be a rarity. I used to get them fairly often in the shallow rocks off the point on tipups, but it has been a while. Also used to get them flatline trolling Raps right after ice out.

Man that is a beauty of a Whitefish!! What is their main food source? Are they not affected by the Alewife decline?

JAGER61, don't hear much on Whitefish at all, that one sure looks like a nice one though. Congrats!

I had no idea Otsego had whitefish! I'm from the Albany area and only made the trip out there once last year and got absolutely skunked. I definitely want to go back out there again this season but it's a bit of a drive, so I want to be prepared and not waste my time ice fishing a skate rink. Any recommendations for an approximate location that would be a good bet? I'll be using tipups with shiners and marmooska jigs with worms. Not asking for a spot burn, I know the dangers, but I tried off Glimmerglass last year and walked forever and still ended up in like 20 FOW...

Any help would be appreciated..

Speaking of white fish this is one of 6 caught in January of this year where Otsego empties into the Susquehanna. Yes that is my son with his fly rod.

I'd say it's probly 400 yds to get into Lakers at Glimmerglass. I walked out of there plenty of times last year and caught quite a few Lakers. Anything over 75 ft is good.....

that is in fact a fallfish and not a whitefish, though the locals often call them whitefish

When off Glimmerglass if you walk out far enough to see back north of the point that is where the water will start to get deeper

Lose something this afternoon? Found in parking lot at Glimmerglass near where a dark Silverado was parked in the morning.

What a brutal day out there! Wind howling, total whiteout at times. Drill a hole and water comes up out of the hole. Snow weight pushing the ice down?

If the wind keeps up though it may clear off the ice.

I dragged out through the snow to where I thought if was in 50' and found I was only in 15'! Didn't have the energy to pull farther so I fished there and found zip. Based on the fish lost in the parking lot someone was on fish.

Did try the bait shop at Rt 20/Rt 80 "Convenience Corner" ? on the receipt and found them friendly and reasonable. They also advertise ethanol free gas.

What is the dead giveaway because I cant tell the difference.

the mouth on a fall fish is very large where the mouth on a white fish is small, also whitefish have an adipose fin like trout, and are only found in deep water, where fallfish are generally river fish, hope this helps!!! fallfish are one of my favorite species on the fly!
