Title: 1st Conn Lake
Post by: articcat on Feb 16, 2021, 05:03 PM
Hi
Has anyone been to Pittsburg in the last week?
Wondering how much ice and snow on 1st Conn Lake?
Going up on the 19th and staying until the 3rd for fishing and riding sleds.
Thanks in advance

Most every year for the last 20 yrs I would have the answers to your questions but covid forced the cancellation of my annual trip to the 1st with the boys. You could call the 1st Connecticut general store ( formerly treats and treasure). Thats were i get my bait and probably could answer your questions. There # is 603 538 7472, hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Caveman. Sad to hear your annual trip cancelled but better safe and healthy going forward.

Co-worker of mine is big into sledding & has a family camp in Pittsburg.  He was there two weekends ago, returning this weekend & said snow is deep.  He can't attest to the ice on any of the lakes though.

I last fished First Conn on January 9th and there was 8" of ice then. Since then I have rode my snowmobile over it at least 2 dozen times, maybe more. There are hardsides all over it, sleds going everywhere and lots of snow.

Update
Just returned on Wednesday after 12 day visit.
20” ice with 12” snow on top.
Was slushy below snow on Monday but tightened up after this cold front.
Caught some lakers nothing big. 22” was the largest but all went back down for another day.
If going up stop in colebrook to get large bait- I could only get shiners about 3”.
Cloudy most days with snow - left Wednesday snowing had about 4” of fluff and still snowing.
Riding was great north and west trails
Be safe to all.
