Fish Trap lifting assistance
« on: Jan 16, 2013, 04:46 PM »
So if your anything like me old, overweight, and out of shape you must have issues lifting your ice shelter by yourself. Well i do anyway. I have also had back issues. This idea just came to me a few days ago and it seems to work. The video was my first attempt at lifting and sliding the shelter into the back of my jeep. I since learned to use a little better form. Before this contraption i used to just grunt and lift, or set it up vertically, grab the bottom and lift. That way seemed to hurt worse. Please improve on this idea if you'd like.

Video of me in action. The second and third attempt was better. I adjusted the strap causing me to reach a little farther then  i just kinda leaned back an the front lifted. I believe this weighs in around 75lbs. For someone reason i tried to blurr my face, but didn't work very well.

Ummm... If you're going to go to the trouble of blurring out your face , take the time to blur out your license plate.

Couldn't you just use the tow rodes to do the same thing?  Add the pvc handle to the tow rope.

+1 If I have quite a bit in my ProTC, I'll lay the pull ropes over the top and lift it into the truck.

I suppose you could, but I was thinking because of the location of the holes it wouldn't balance as well.

Buddy.....  That is a good Idea.  A Simple solution.   I have done it with the tow ropes but having something separate that has a handle i can leave in my truck.  Lifting a 2 man by yourself is a PIA anyway but with this i would be able to do it no problem.   Nice job and thanks for sharing it with everyone.

I use the factory tow ropes to life mine onto the back of the atv. I am only 5 ft 6inches so lifting it to the back of a 700 kawasaki is a real feat. But using the tow rope the same way as the OP makes it much easier. I life mine onto my atv with a buddy heater, 20lb LP tank, a flasher, rod, tackle box, travel cover, radio, ect all in the shack. Not even sure of total weight but its up there.

After a back injury I learned to lift more wisely.   I don't use the PVC (good idea BTW), but for years I have been lifting the back and resting it on my thighs then using the tow rope to lift the nose

I like the ide of the PVC to widen the rope and balance the nose weight.  Thx for the tip!
