Walleye Lure Help
« on: Dec 23, 2012, 12:47 PM »
Ok I need some real Help. This will be my first year Ice fishing. Last year we had no ice and I had not equipment as I just moved to a place were I could Ice fish. I never lived in a place that got cold enough to ice fish before. I AM A FISHING NUT HOWEVER!!!!!!! Now I got my basice gear and am ready to go. Here is my question.

This year I won't have a ton of money to put towards walleye lures. I realistically will start the season with 4-5 walleye lures in my tackle box. So with that in mind I need some real help not some philosophical advise or some answer like I got on the main thread that sounded like a politician gave it. A lot of nice words but not a real answer to a simple question. LOL So here it is as simple as I can ask it. If you only had 3-4 lures in your tackle box for walleyes no matter where you was ice fishing what would they be? what size? what weight? what color? what would you tip it with?

Example: Swedish Pimple Sixe 3 1/5 OZ crushed ice purple tipped with minnow head (Not even sure if that lure exist)

Not asking for top secrets just looking for help and a chance to catch some fish and not waste what little funds I have.
Thank You.

1/4oz PK Flutterfish in Red Dot Glow

1/4oz PK Spoon in Fire Tiger Glow

3/8oz PK Spoon in Shad

3/8oz Flutterfish in Firetiger Glow

They work awesome without tipping with bait. You can tip them with a few spikes or chunk of minnow if you so please but it will slightly alter the action. Sometimes they prefer with bait, other times its not needed. Here is where you go to get them: http://www.pklures.com/

I use these all year long  ..... 1/8 or 1/4 oz grave digger tipped with a minnow.  Cost about $.50

I like the new Rapala Snap Raps, SNR08, Chartreuse Tiger.    Of course they are a bit more expensive than the grave digger.

Buy round jig heads in a couple different sizes and back hook a live minnow.  Jig up, let fall, repeat...even works on a dead stick.  Out preforms all other methods.

Colors:  Also come in gold and silver, I like gold, pink, green, yellow, white

Sizes:  I like the bigger ones but other guys tend to like the small sizes, maybe it allows the minnow to move around better, I like the jig to fall fast.

Live Minnow:

Hook types:  I like the back hook but hook behind the dorsal fin and come through the other side

So now that's 2 for the Northland Buckshot Rattle.  I will have to add it to the collection.  What colors do you use, just the silver shiner?

ice fishing secerts buy infishermen press made in 1988 and rebublished in 1991 so hence the 1991 version.  if looking for a copy for free try the libray or the state e-libray if your state protisipate in them. if not try half.com for used books  or try infishmens web site for new books.  you can google it sorry some times the links don't work here and i do not want to cut in to the sponsors selling stuff casue they are great sponsors. etc..etc... and would hate to post a site that was not aggred apon.not that the sponsor limit you googleing will help you out morethen me. this is cause it limits you and say buy it hear when you could like amazon better and have a better deal there maybe like point or something.  any ways wish you the best of luck and hope you find a copy.    if not say something i could always help you out find one.
