alot of times after i get done drilling my holes and scoopin them out, i get some sardines soaked in spring water and drop 2 or so down my tip-up or pike pole holes. this works really good. last year i drilled my hole, dropped the sardines in there, put my pike rod down, and started to walk away. i got about 10ft away when i heard the reel spinnin like crazy. it was a pretty good size pike for around here. try it sometime.
