First truck through the ice in MN
« on: Dec 12, 2013, 06:01 PM »
Theres always that guy!! http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2013/12/12/dnr-ice-house-jeep-fall-through-ice-near-alexandria/  Not really sure what he was thinking but there is not enough ice for that. Enough for the atv and sled but not a truck. No ice is safe ice!!!!!

Ive always wondered if your insurance company would cover accidents like this when primarily very bad judgement was involved.

I'm not sure I understand what is funny about this, their lives were in danger.

their lives were in danger.

By their own design.

If they got out and no one was hurt, it's absolutely hilarious... but if someone gets hurt, it's not funny at all.

They're idiots and they are ok...its funny. you have to be stupid to drive out right now. Maybe the spendy bill for getting the rig out and fines will make them think twice next time....oh wait you cant fix stupid

I wouldn't be making jokes if anyone was killed but no one was. As to the guy who went through in his camry he was alright as well.

Sorry to hear that someone went through the ice, and glad they made it out safe.

Only permanent cure for stupid is death, and it helps clean the gene pool at the same time.

Remember guys and galls,ALL ice is safe till it breaks. That is why I do not drive my truck on the ice. A lot less ATV go through when there is 20 in of ice.
Now don't get all hyper about 20 in of ice is real safe, yes it is,just read them first words I put down.
I have ice fished for 55 years, and never fell in,and do not plan on it either. Just use your head.

Probably just forgot to over-inflate the tires. Being so early in the season we have to dial in our gear and for him to forget to add air to the tires for added flotation was probably just an oversight. Glad they are OK, I am sure he will update his checklist after this and carry a compressor with him from now on.

The DNR said a great way to do that is to contact a local bait shop or resort and ask them about ice conditions.

Or maybe just go check it yourself, on foot first before driving out here or relying on someone at the bait shop to tell you it's ok!

Exactly!

Get your lazy butt out of the nice warm truck and drill some holes ahead so you can see exactly what you're dealing with... starting at the shore line and don't stop until you get to your destination.

... or you could wait until lots of people have already driven out on the ice to make sure it's safe for yourself, but that might be too sensible.

This is so true. If no one gets hurt others think we are stupid to go out on ice at all, If someone gets killed then the rest of us are called crazy.. In this world of Government Mothers you worry sooner or latter they start passing restrictions and posting stuff out of bounds .  Up here now if you get into trouble and someone calls 911 they give you the bill.  That can get expensive even if you didn't need two fire trucks a paramedic and a few Cops. Here is your Bill cha ching .  Us crazy folks are costing the department bucks doing this goofy pastime.  Tackle shops sell gear and a million Minnows.  Locale Business making big bucks renting rooms , food in breakfast and lunch spots, Coffee selling buy the barrel and no one cares about the revenue coming in but some dude out too far or caught behind a crack here is your bill.  Helicopter fuel is pricey ... You don't have to be stupid or crazy to get into trouble out on Ice a strong wind and a little extra heat near end of season and you may find yourself on a chunk of floating away ice.    You feel stupid , you may have pushed it ,now you are scared to call for help because you may get a bill for a couple of grand.. Now do you call or do you try something real stupid ,like a short swim...      :(

I dunno, seems like every time you hear about someone getting into trouble out on the ice it's because they're doing something stupid or idiotic and they've thrown all caution to the wind... or don't even have enough brains to be cautious.
